Christmas

What a great time of year.

This holiday is about friends, family, and the spirit of giving. It is not a religious holiday for me at all. Tim Minchin's feelings towards Christmas is quite similar to mine. Check out his Christmas Song.

I grew up with all the Christian holidays and have grown to enjoy the time spent with others I care about.

I always looked forward to going to the tree farm finding and cutting our tree down then getting peanut butter fudge, hot chocolate, and hot dogs. It always seemed to rain or snow on that day. Putting up the tree and decorating it was just as fun, while listening to holiday tunes with the smell of orange peels and cinnamon in the air.

The best is Christmas Eve night when the Bryan family gathers to partake in eating, sharing tales from the year, and exchanging gifts. How I love seeing my aunts, uncles, mom-moms, pop-pops, cousins, and friends.

So, in conclusion Christmas can be meaningful and worthwhile with all religious stuff.

  2. We always celebrated the commericalization of the holidays. Not Christmas but Santa. Easter was a bunny.

We purposefully kept out the what Christians believe on holidays. We wanted you (all three of you) to make up your own minds regarding your beliefs. We decided when Berek was just a baby that your beliefs are your own. A private, personal journey for you to explore and decide.

A related short story: Jason was about 8 or 9 and we were finishing up a baby shower for Aunt Tammy & Uncle Jim. Jason just came in the house and checking out all the gifts and came across a toy ark with a bunch of animals on it -- two of each. He asked out loud."What is this?" "Noah's Ark" your great grandmother Pullin repiled. "What the is that" he asked. The gasping from everyone was audible and the entire room turned around and looked me as your great grandmother asked. "What do you mean he doesn't know about Noah's Ark?" I calmly replied. "Jason will make up his own mind about his beliefs when he is ready. We will not influence his decision. It is his own to make." Not another word was said and the subject was changed.

We have always tried to live up to that. Your beliefs are your own. Explore, keep an open mind and enjoy the journey and all it as to offer.
